Not sure what to do now that you have committed to your college? Read on to get some helpful tips.

  1. After you tell your college they are the one, follow closely to all housing and scheduling for classes deadlines! If you don’t meet the deadlines, you can miss the better dorms or classes. This is super important.

  2. Self advocate! If you need help or are struggling at all, there are people that want to to help you.

  3. Meet with your academic advisor religiously! Plan out a couple of semesters in advance so you know what classes you are taking next. You will be glad you did.

  4. Take advantage of student/peer tutoring for those tough classes. We all have the tough classes. Get some peer help if you need it.

  5. Everyone feels that they are not smart enough - so tell yourself that is not true and carry on!

  6. Develop some good study habits. Plan and schedule what you need to do each week.

  7. Science shows studying in different locations helps you remember things. Also breakup the subjects (2 hours of math, then switch to another subject). You won’t remember anything after studying the same thing for 4 hours! And SLEEP. You cannot remember anything without sleep!

  8. Create a time when you call home - like Sunday afternoons. Talk to them more at the beginning if you are homesick (or if they miss you).

  9. Take advantage of all services on campus including counseling, clubs, sports events, TAs in the dorm, and health services if you are sick.

  10. Get to know your professors so you can possibly do research or an internship with them at a later date.

LAST, but not least (bonus content) - have fun! But not too much fun, as you are there to learn!!
